GETTING TO THE HEART OF WHAT MATTERS
Facilitator: John Foley

John Foley is from eastern Newfoundland, and provides workshops and training through his business MindPatch Metta Station. He has completed the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program led by renown clinical psychologists, mindfulness meditation instructors and international authors Jack Kornfield (jackkornfield.com) and Tara Brach (tarabrach.com).
This retreat into our heart spaces offers an opportunity for a more detailed exploration of the heart opening practices of self-acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude and loving kindness (Metta). Getting to the Heart of What Matters will provide a guided, safe and understanding space to deepen an ongoing heart practice, recognize barriers to our personal spiritual growth and to immerse ourselves in Metta.
Saturday, August 24, 9am—4pm
Tuition is $60. (Vegan & Gluten Free Lunch Provided)
Session 1: Gratitude
Nothing gets the heart juices flowing quite like a little appreciation of life. We start the program off by ‘counting our blessings,’ so to speak, and using practical exercises to more frequently focus on the positive.
Session 2: Self-acceptance
We are often unaware of how hard we are on ourselves. The internal battle against ourselves can be immensely draining and sometimes overwhelming. Practice recognizing negative thoughts and how to work with your judgments and justifications.
Session 3: Forgiveness
The burden of resentment, anger and frustration is a tiring one to carry. Letting go of past grievances opens up space for more positive emotions to be present.
Session 4: Loving Kindness
With much hard work done over the first sessions, it’s time to bring it all home to the heart as we work through a Metta meditation and spend time reflecting on our practice and setting an intention to continue to open our hearts.
Comfortable clothing is recommended. Please feel free to bring a meditation cushion or bench. Chairs and yoga mats will be available at the Tree of Life.
